Whatever you do in Brazil, you don't want to be considered as a target by local thieves. First rule is don't wear black.

Brazil is pretty warm and humid : shorts, jeans, t-shirts are good ideas. Bring a light sweater or a jacket for the evenings.


Bring a sport coat, slacks, and dress shoes if you plan to try the upscale night spots or restaurants. However you should avoid flashing logos and brands, you'll be considered a "rico", a rich man.
