Favelas in Brazil

Favelas have been the setting of many incidents recently, one of them being the death of a man allegedly beaten by police.

A wave of pacification has been undertaken by the police and the military have invaded some of Rio's slums. They are expected to remain there throughout the world cup.

Beautiful, but not for tourists

If you really want to go in a favela, you can join an organised trip. However keep alert and make sure you ask for the local conditions before you go.
